Fraud Alert
It has come to our attention that many of our customers and quite a few members of our community who aren’t customers of ours have been contacted via text and phone by someone claiming to be a Bank of Newington representative. During the correspondence, the person requests certain information pertaining to account and or personal details about the person they are contacting. The text messages are requesting verification of expenditures made generally at Target and Walmart, followed by phone calls requesting certain information such as the individual’s card number, pin number, etc. We will never contact you requesting information of this nature. If you feel that you may have been targeted and may have provided compromising information during the call or text, please contact us directly at any of our locations or contact the fraud hotline number provided through your Bank of Newington Mobile app. We can help you monitor your accounts for suspicious activity, and further mitigate the potential for problems to arise. This is part of an elaborate social engineering scheme perpetrated through social media outlets that has impacted multiple banks in our state over the last week. We go to great lengths to insure the security and privacy of our customers and have no reason to believe that any of that information has been compromised at this time.
DO NOT provide personal information including online login information, PIN numbers, etc. over the phone or via text. Also, if you receive a link to follow via text or email, do not click the link.
